Hole Charts from STEP Files

I was asked how to get hole information from a STEP file into a Hole Chart in Fusion 360. As you know, STEP files are a neutral file format that do not contain any features.

Fusion 360 has a really neat tool called “Find Features”, which allows you to recognise the features in an imported file, like STEP.

As I shared this on a forum post, I thought I’d share it here too, it’s a “quick and dirty” 30-second clip of the workflow.

Takeaways:

“Find Features” is only available in Direct Editing / “Do Not Capture Design History” Mode.

Threaded holes will not be recognised, because the STEP file does not have this information, but you get editable features in the new Fusion Model, meaning that you can tweak the holes as needed.
